MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. (January 31, 2013) – Minn Kota, the world’s leading manufacturer of electric trolling motors, joins the Cabela’s National Walleye Tour (NWT) as an official sponsor for the 2013 season. Minn Kota makes yet another strong addition to a group of sponsors already committed to the NWT as it heads towards its inaugural 2013 season.
“Minn Kota builds an excellent product and is a well-respected brand among anglers everywhere,” said NWT Tournament Director Anthony Wright. “This is a great addition to our group of sponsors. We’re excited to have them on board and look forward to kicking off the season in April.”
Since its founding, Minn Kota has led the way in product innovation and cutting-edge technology. The Minn Kota electric trolling motor began its life in 1934 in Fargo N. D. Inventor O. G. Schmidt was known to be a man of many diverse ideas. Prior to the trolling motor, Schmidt invented, produced and sold a copper-soldering torch from his home in Wheatland, N. D.
Due to its success, manufacturing operations were moved to Fargo. Because of its proximity to the MINNesota – North DaKOTA border, Schmidt named the business The Minn Kota Manufacturing Company.
“We jumped at the chance to be involved with the new National Walleye Tour,” said Minn Kota Marketing Director Joe Brown. “We’re passionate about walleye and multi-species angling and this is the absolute top level of the sport. This is a great opportunity to show our support.”
The all-new NWT begins April 26, 2013, and includes a total of three qualifying events, plus a year-end championship. The NWT website is already accepting registrations for all events. The website offers numerous details on the circuit, including official rules, tournament structure, payout and incentives.
Each NWT event features over 100% payback. A fully rigged Ranger Boat, plus cash, is guaranteed for first place at each event – a total value of $57,000. Anglers that fish all three regular season events, in addition to the top points leaders, will gain entry to the three-day, entry fee Championship.
The new circuit also includes unprecedented television and media coverage, allowing a national audience to watch the action unfold from each event throughout the season. Airing on multiple networks, the NWT will be seen on The Texas Channel, World Fishing Network, Pursuit Channel, as well as the new NBC Sports Network.
