Although February has just come and gone
and most anglers are inside waiting for the
spring thaw, Matt Pikka (NPAA #852) took
the initiative to find the nearest open water
and jump in.  The location was Green Bay,
WI and the goal was to raise donations for
the local Special Olympics Organization.

“Most of the time I would rather be on the ice fishing,
but in the case of helping out raising money to fund
 programs for the less fortunate,
I don’t have to think twice about jumping into the freezing water.”

The fundraising took about two months, but
in that time Matt was able to raise over one-
thousand dollars of donations through family,
friends, and local businesses.

“Reaching my goal and raising that much for
this organization feels incredible, however I
would have never been able to get there if it
weren’t for Marianne Huskey (NPAA #150)
matching my proceeds one day before the
event. It takes a lot of heart to do something
like that.”

Despite the chilly weather (and snow),
there was a significant number jumpers
and Special Olympics Athletes on hand to
enjoy a great day of plunging, food, and music.

“I think we all had a really good time, and I
look forward to supporting and participating
in events like this every year.”
