On April 27, 2013 in Red Wing MN the NPAA members Marianne Huskey # 150 and Rick Zachowski #231 hosted a “Future Angler” Clinic following the final day weigh in at the first Cabela’s National Walleye Tour event of the year.
With 105 kids and over 200 parents gathered around the stage Marianne Huskey expounded upon the importance of “Cleaning, Draining and Drying your boat to prevent the spread of invasive species”.
Eric Olson #165 took the stage next as the home town favorite Pro Angler as he shared his knowledge to help teach the kid and their parents some local techniques used on the Mississippi River. Topics discussed included color choice of crank baits in stained water, downsizing your baits and the importance slowing down your trolling speed in cooler water temperatures.
After the seminar the kids marched single file behind Rick Zachowski #231 to receive prizes handed out by NPAA members Mark Brumbaugh #70, Glenn Vinton #280, Dusty Minke #612, Eric Olson #165 and Marianne Huskey NPAA #150.
Each child received a fishing combo and Future Angler T-shirt which were provided by the NPAA and Future Angler Foundation. In addition, Frisbee’s were provided by Off Shore Tackle and bobbers provided by Fishing Has No Boundaries. The event was a huge success. A video of the event can be viewed at www.npaa.net. Additional NPAA “Future Angler” Clinics will be held at each of the three remaining Cabela’s National Walleye Tour events this year which include: Lake Erie at Port Clinton, OH; Green Bay at Sturgeon Bay, WI; and Devils Lake in Devils, ND.
