NPAA members Greg Karch #138 and Tim Euting #789 hosted a Future Angler Fishing Club over the past 6 weeks at Maplewood Middle School in Menasha, Wisconsin.  This Fishing Club met each Wednesday and introduced the young attendees to all types of fishing.  The first week each of youths introduced themselves and each shared a fishing experience along with a picture of their catch.  The youths then learned about safety while fishing, closed and open spinning combo’s, and how to cast each of the Shakespeare fishing combos.

During the second and subsequent weeks they learned about: the parts of a fish and how to identify the twenty different fish they would most likely catch in Wisconsin;  a video from a recent ice fishing trip; the different techniques for ice fishing along with all the equipment used from a Frabill Shack to the Northland Tackle ice fishing jigs and spoons;  use of electronics;  locations to catch fish using Navionics charts and apps to show where we fish and why we fish there;  the equipment and techniques for Musky fishing from two Members of Dave’s Musky club who brought in a mount of a fifty-five pound Musky along with the rod that caught the fish;  and all the artificial lures you can use to catch fish.  At each meeting of the Future Angler Club we reviewed the Stop AIS message of Clean, Drain and Dry.  Each club member pledged that they would follow the message!!

During the artificial lure presentation on the final week we reviewed Berkley’s Gulp and PowerBait to show the youths how closely artificial baits resemble the live bait, including the smell.  The youths were then introduced to all our crank baits.  We discussed why we had so many and how and when we use each of them.  We had the kids guess how many Plano boxes we had and awarded a Plano soft side tackle pack for the youth closest.

Each of the youths went home with an fishing rod/reel combo and Plano tackle box supplied with everything needed to start fishing.

This Fishing Club would not be possible without the support of these sponsors: Dave’s Musky Club, Berkley, NPAA, Future Angler Foundation, Plano, Shakespeare, Mercury, Lake-Link, Triton Boats, The Boat Doc, Off Shore Tackle Company, Northland Tackle, TTI Blakemore Fishing Group, Navionics, Maui Jim and The Reel Shot.
