NPAA members Greg Karch #138 and Tim Euting #789 hosted Future Angler seminars at the Madison Fishing Expo in Madison, Wisconsin. Greg’s seminar ‘Fishing Basic’s was held four times throughout the sports show and covered: safety, details on open- and closed-face fishing combos, casting, fishing identification, knots, bait, parts of a fish and essential items to have in a tackle box. The seminar ended with the AIS message of ‘Clean, Drain and Dry.
Joan, an attendee of the ‘Fishing Basics’ seminar, said, ‘this seminar provided all the education she needed to take her son and daughter fishing for their first time’. Joan enjoyed the ‘Go Fishing’ educational book as the seminar tied right back to the book. Over two hundred and fifty youths along with more than two hundred parents/adults attended the clinics. A board member from the Madison Fishing Expo expressed that the Future Angler seminar is what the sport show needed.
Each youth received a Future Angler shirt or fishing combo which was provided by NPAA and the Future Angler Foundation.
Other sponsors included: Dave’s Musky Club, Shakespeare, Berkley, Plano, Mercury, Lake-Link, Triton Boats, The Boat Doc, Off Shore Tackle Company, Northland Tackle, TTI Blakemore Fishing Group, Navionics, Maui Jim, The Reel Shot and Madison Fishing Expo.
Many events bringing new people into the sport of fishing-both youth and adults-are supported through the 501c3 non-profit organization Future Angler Foundation. Through charitable contributions, the FAF purchases needed items for programs like this and helps skilled anglers teach others about one of the best sports a person can ever learn: fishing. It is a sport that can last a lifetime.
