The MWC and National Professional Anglers Association presented a Youth & Family Fishing Clinic after the first day’s weigh-in at the MWC event on Lake Oahe in Mobridge, South Dakota on Friday, July 22nd. Over 100 kids waited anxiously to gain hands-on fishing tips and autographs from the MWC Pros. The first 50 youth received a free rod and reel combo donated by the NPAA, and tackle kits courtesy of Northland Fishing Tackle while others received NPAA Future Pro t-shirts and North American Fisherman magazines.
NPAA members Chad Maloy #499, Don Denning #140, Troy Morris #166, Corey Heiser #373, Mike Dorris #426, Brian Woodward #538, Dave Harmon #270, Scott Busteed #536 and MWC bumpmaster, Dan Palmer #345 along with MWC anglers Jason Coester, Brian Gaikowski, Curt Olivier, Kevin Breuer, Paul Steffens, Traver Diegel, Ken Cumber & Rick Walter paired up with the kids and helped them rig their new fishing combos with Northland Tackle as MC’s Johnnie Candle #42 and Dave Noble #997 provided instruction.
At the conclusion of the event each child was presented with a ticket for a chance to bring home a new bike donated by the Mobridge Chamber of Commerce. Johnnie Candle drew the winning ticket from a hat and excitement grew as he slowly read off each digit. One by one potential winners were eliminated as more numbers were revealed. Eventually, there was only one lucky winner remaining.
The future anglers concluded their evening chasing down their favorite professional anglers for autographs.
This was the second of three stops in the MWC West Division’s 2011 season. The circuit heads for legendary Cass Lake, Minnesota, out of Stony Point Resort September 16-18. The MWC’s 2011 trail is comprised of nine qualifiers in three divisions. Anglers fishing at least three events (from any division) accumulate points toward a berth in the no-entry-fee, $100,000 Cabela’s MWC World Walleye Championship; teams fishing four events are in the running for overall MWC Team of the Year honors and a $13,000 cash prize.
