Learn 2 Fish With Us Angler Educator and NPAA Member Greg Karch #138 spent three days educating families on fishing at Farm Technology Days which was held in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. The event took place August 12th though the 14th.
Greg was on the Youth Main Stage, daily, presenting his Fishing Basics seminar where families learned everything needed to go fishing from safety, fishing combos, casting, fishing presentations, bait, knots and fishing identification. Greg then reviewed the AIS message of ‘Clean Drain Dry’. Greg had the kids yell out CLEAN!! He then reviewed what clean meant, such as removing the weeds from his boat and trailer. The kids then yelled out DRAIN!!! Greg explained that drain meant draining his live well of water and pulling his boat plug so all water in the boat would drain.
Greg’s organization, Learn 2 Fish With Us and the NPAA had a booth that allowed families to learn everything about fishing while passing through the youth area. The hit of the booth was Lake Shakespeare where kids had the opportunity to cast for Backyard Bass and get casting tips from a pro. Many kids caught their first fish!!! So many parents asked Greg, how can you be so patient? Greg said “the smiles from the kids after they catch a Backyard Bass is priceless”. Greg has been attending Farm Technology Days for the last four years due to the great attendance, and it allows Greg to work with youth that may not typically come to a fishing clinic. Greg would like to thank all the 4H and FFA volunteers that helped in the booth.
Each family went home with a Shakespeare fishing educational book and a fishing related item thanks to Learn 2 Fish With Us and Greg’s sponsors. The sponsors include: Dave’s Musky Club, Shakespeare, Berkley, Plano, Frabill, Mercury, Triton Boats, The Boat Doc, Off Shore Tackle Company, Northland Tackle, TTI Blakemore Fishing Group, Navionics, NPAA, Future Angler Foundation, Maui Jim and The Reel Shot.
