Dear PWT Pro Anglers,After a recent PWT Advisory Council meeting, several modifications have been made to the 2006 format, including additional Championship berths. Please review the following material. As we go through the first season, we will discuss many options and fine-tune the two series.Super Pro (presented by MinnKota) Qualifications – 2006Super Pro anglers were ranked on their PWT records and statistics. Four categories were used to rank pros:1.) Number of Championships fished;2.) Number of top 10-place finishes;3.) Average place finish;4.) Money won.Following the ranking system, the top-ranked pros were invited to fish. Those below the “line,” were re-ranked on their three-year records, and the top two “hot pros” were also invited.Invitations were mailed, and a list of those who accepted follows. PWT pro Perry Good was ranked number one.David AndersenSam AndersonTom BackerJohn BergsmaSteve BohnMark BrumbaughJohn ButtsJim CarrollMark ChristiansonDaryl ChristensenBobby CrowBrad DavisScott FairbairnSteve FellegyTodd FrankRick FranklinRon GazvodaMarty GlorvigenSoctt GlorvigenMike GofronPerry GoodGary GrayRoss GrotheCarl GrunwaldtMark GwizdalaPete HarshJay JannyCharlie JohnsonKeith KavajeczShannon KehlTom KemosJohn KolinskiAndy KufferMike KulmMark MartinSheldon MeidingerDean MillerGil MolletJim MuzynoskiBrian NeyErnie OlsonRick OlsonBill OrtizKim PapineauChase ParsonsGary ParsonsJohn PetersonDan PlautzDanny PlautzBob Propst, Jr.Tony PuccioDave RandashTodd RileyGary RoachBruce SamsonRon SeelhoffTommy SkarlisLarry SnowBill St. PeterDan StierJeff TaegeDave Van OssBarry WalkerSuper Pro anglers will fish all four events. The top 30 will be invited to the Mercury Championship. The Johnsonville Brats Angler of the Year will come from the Super Pro series. The top five will automatically qualify for the 2007 Super Pro series.Super Pro anglers may also fish the Regional series. If they qualify for the Championship in the Super Pro series and the Regionals, they may not block Regional anglers from the Championship. In 2007, Super Pro qualifications follow:1.) The top five Super Pro anglers from 2006 automatically qualify;2.) The top five Regional anglers from 2006 automatically qualify;3.) The top 40 pro anglers in points (of all PWT pros) will be invited, as long as they have fished either the entire 4-tournament Super Pro series or the entire Regional series in 2006.4.) If any pros qualify in #1 and #3 or #2 and #3, they will not block others from moving into the top 40.5.) Many Regional anglers are on the “bubble,” and with a good year, will add to their records. If they score better than an angler who has a so-so Super Pro year, these Regional anglers will move into the Super Pro series in 2007.Regional anglers will qualify for the future Super Pro seasons. The top five from 2006 will be invited to fish the Super Pro in 2007. To be considered, Regional anglers must fish all four Regionals. Anglers who have competed in the past (but not 2005) will be able to add to their statistics in 2006. They may be eligible for the Super Pro based on their overall scores and if they fish all four Regional tournaments in 2006. The Tommy Docks Regional Champion will pocket $5,000.NEW! The top 20 Regional anglers, by points, will be invited to the Championship based on a minimum or 40 fishing the entire series. The top 20 Regional anglers have a chance to win money at the Championship (every qualifier gets a check), collect on their sponsor bonus programs, boost their overall Championship qualification numbers and raise their overall scores. Many Regional anglers are only a top-10 or a Championship away from those who were invited to the Super Pro series this year. Pros with a score of 32 or less were invited (the lower score, the better – Perry Good scored 5; Keith Kavajecz and Mike Gofron scored 6; Gary Parsons and Ron Seelhoff scored 8 to round out the top five). A total of 11 pros were tied with a score of 32, and all were invited to compete, which explains the number of pro anglers invited to fish the 2006 Super Pro series. Individual scores, based on records and statistics for all the PWT events fished, will be posted on the PWT Web site.Regional anglers who apply to fish all four events will receive priority consideration and be invited ahead of those who elect to fish fewer events. Those who sign up for three events will receive the next set of invitations, followed by those who apply to fish only two tournaments. One-time pros will be invited to fish based on qualifications and space available. The Super Pro Pass will honor the highest-ranking Regional pro who drives a Lund/Mercury boat rigged with Optima Batteries in 2006 and 2007. That pro will win an invitation (Super Pro Pass) to fish the 2007 Super Pro series, with entries paid. Both series will be covered extensively in the Walleye In-Sider magazine and on PWT Television. The TV series will profile more individuals in 2006. With more chances to make the Mercury Championship, more opportunities on TV, on the radio, on the Web and in the magazines, PWT pros can help themselves, their sponsors and their futures by fishingan entire series. The addition of two tournaments, the new dual-circuit format, moreChampionship slots, and many other improvements means more opportunities. Thank you for you continued support.Sincerely,Jim KalkofenPS: Please call PWT directors if you have any questions; Jim,218-824-2552 or Charlie, 218-824-2552.PWT Television Series Runs 3 More MonthsAfter a very successful October, November and December run, the PWT television series will air again in January, February and March.
