Saginaw Bay was quite different this morning than the AIM pros have seen since beginning the Pre-fish phase; it was calm! The Bay has been rough for days, according to Lund/Mercury Pro Mike Gofron. “The smallest waves I’ve been fishing in have been about two feet, so this will be different!” he said in an AIM interview this morning.

Toyota Trucks Pro Pat Neu also commented on the calm conditions, stating his fish should be on, as long as he can find some dirtier water. He feels the bite will be very good today, and expects some big weights to come into the stage this afternoon. Yar Craft/Mercury Pro Tom Kemos also was fired up about the bite this morning, stating his boat control will be much better this morning in the calmer conditions.

Day One Tournament Leader Tommy Skarlis  was a little surprised at the quality of the fish he was on yesterday, as the average was higher than his A spot had been holding in pre-fish. He said he was looking for a solid average today, hoping the fish moving through are the same quality as yesterday, but not counting on it. Tommy’s lead of nine pounds is considerable, but certainly not out of reach from the rest of the Top Five.

The weather out of Bay City today looks to offer calm or near calm winds, except for the occasional thundershower moving through. The Pros went out into a light shower and calm seas, and should enjoy comparable weather most of the day with moderate temperatures forecast to hit 70 degrees.

The AIM CRR format weigh-in begins at 5 PM Eastern, featuring a live video feed, images of Pros and Co Anglers holding the fish from out on the water, and a live leaderboard. Look for the link at http://www.aimfishing.com.
