FLIPPIN, Ark. (September 24, 2014) – Ranger Pro Korey Sprengel, of Beaver Dam, Wisc., rallied from a three-pound deficit on the third and final day to win the 2014 Cabela’s National Walleye Tour Championship on Lake Winnebago. The championship was the first of the 26-year-old pro’s career and the sixth tournament win in his young career.
With the win, Sprengel took home a first-place prize package valued at $84,424, which included a Ranger 621FS Fisherman (upgraded from a 619FS for being Ranger Cup qualified) powered by an Evinrude outboard, $15,000 cash, $1,424 in Anglers Advantage money and a $1,000 contingency from Mercury.
Sprengel entered the third and final day of the 2014 championship event trailing eventual third-place finisher Mark Courts. Despite his extensive knowledge of the lake, Sprengel credited a last-minute decision to focus his attention on the lake’s south shore for his tournament-best 18.42-pound stringer that secured his championship victory.
“I’ve never worked so hard in a fishing tournament in my life,” Sprengel said. “When I landed that seventh fish, I took a nice boat ride and when I got back in the harbor I could have gone to sleep right there.”
Ranger Pros dominated the top of the standings in the 2014 Cabela’s National Walleye Tour Championship. In addition to Sprengel, Ranger Pros took each of the Top-5 spots in the final standings with all reaping additional prize money thanks to the Ranger Cup program. Rounding out the Top 5 were Jacob Ell (second place), Courts (third place), Kevin McQuoid (fourth place) and Ross Grothe (fifth place).
“We’re proud to have such accomplished anglers representing the Ranger brand,” said Ranger Boats President Randy Hopper. “The overwhelming success at this event, both for the anglers individually and as a team, speaks volumes about their abilities as anglers. We congratulate all of them and wish them the same kind of success going forward.”
