After the first day of the AIM Weekend Walleye Series (AWWS) WI Alumacraft Championship, Scott Rohlhoff and Cameron Lewis are in the drivers seat with just over a ten pound lead on their nearest competitors.

With a small fish to start the day, followed by a four hour lull, it was a few adjustments that bumped them up to 46.94lbs for five fish. With only seven fish caught all day, they still have confidence that they can put together another respectable limit tomorrow.

With only four fish, Jason and Matt Miller made a showing by coming in second place with 36.76lbs. After losing the fish they found on Wednesday, today they just went out prefishing and found walleye gold around 10am. It was one here and one there from that point on, all the way until the end. As they were picking up their lines they hit the jackpot with a 30.75in fish! Now that they have found the fish again, they are hoping to bring in one more good bag to secure a spot in the top five.

Coming in third are Nate Curell and Brian Talvensaari who had five fish for 35.57lbs. While they caught a lot of nice fish, they didn’t get as many big ones as they had hoped for. Their largest fish was over 28 inches and came as part of triple that included a 23 and 26 inch fish! They feel that their bite will hold for tomorrow.

Mark Kuzniewski and Karl Wenckebach pulled in 34.86lbs to land in fourth place. With a triple right off the bat, the duo just kept upgrading all day long. Their biggest fish, a 29.5 inch walleye came at the end of the day. They hope that their area will hold out for the second day.

Rounding out the top five are Lynn Niklasch and Mark Kumorkiewicz with 33.28lbs. With the bite slower than expected, they managed to boat 8 fish using spinners. Their largest fish was a 28 incher and had several in the 23-26inch range.

Teams will again take off from Breakwater Park at 7:00am Sunday and return at 3:00pm. The weigh-in will take place at 5:00pm. Teams are allowed to bring in a scorecard with their best five fish. All waters of Green Bay are open, including both Michigan and Wisconsin waters.

The winner of the championship will be awarded a Alumacraft 165 Tiller with a 40hp Yamaha. The top five finishers at the championship and the top five teams in the AMSOIL points race will go the no-entry Warrior Boats Shoot-out next year.
