On Saturday, April 21st, the Sauk Prairie Art Teachers, the River Arts Center, and Mueller Sports Medicine put on a celebration of fish and fishing in today’s culture. The opening reception was March 8th and featured “fishy” kid’s art in the theater lobby of the River Arts Center. Also, the same day was the opening reception for the Adult Fish Art Invitational Show with many interesting fishy stuff to see and enjoy.
April 18th -21st, the DNR had the giant DNR Aquarium filled with Wisconsin River fish captured in the river in Sauk Prairie at the school art gallery. There were many of the native river fish species for all to see. The aquarium was open for viewing during daylight hours. Warden Greg Stacey also came with the new DNR anti-contamination trailer which is for the cleaning and extinction of any invasive species that may be on one’s boat and or motor.
Saturday, April 21st, was the culmination of the “fish celebration” with a “Fish Fest Expo” at the Sauk Prairie High School. The Expo was a family friendly expo of all things fishy. The event was free with lots of kid’s activities, lure displays, fly tying artists, taxidermy, photo opportunities, knot tying, and casting.
NPAA members, Duffy Kopf and Gary Engberg handled the casting and knot tying stations. The NPAA, at short notice, came through with some fishing rods and reels, t-shirts, and fishing books to give to the dozens of “future pros” and young anglers. The turnout was great and more children were introduced to the outdoors and fishing by the NPAA! Thanks to all.
