Fish tampering leads to charges
The Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police report the fish would found while in a joint patrol with conservation officers from the Ministry of Natural Resources checking boats of anglers competing in a June 11 walleye tournament.
An angler participating in the Sioux Lookout walleye fishing tournament was in possession of a fish that had been noticeably altered.
The subsequent investigation revealed that the angler had cut the tails of the fish to shorten the overall length in an attempt to possess it as a legal-sized fish.
A 23-year old Sioux Lookout resident has been charged with possessing a fish of prohibited size under a sport fishing licence, contrary to the Ontario Fishing Regulations.
The accused was later issued a summons to appear in Sioux Lookout court on Sept. 15.
