Green Reaper crew wins 444 with new record
The crew of the Green Reaper set a new record with a combined total of 75.05 lbs of Walleye in this year’s 24th Annual 444 International Walleye Tournament this past weekend in Port Colborne.
The previous record was a combined weight of 70.62 lbs set by the Meals On Reels Crew in 2012.
“We’re just vibrating,” Dave Moody of Lowbanks, the captain of the Green Reaper said after being informed of their win. “It hasn’t really sunk in yet.”
“It was a fabulous weekend,” he said. “We got onto some nice fish and we were lucky to get them in the boat. We worked hard and it was a team effort.”
His team included his son Brandon Moody, Adam Vokes and Dave Ballantyne. It’s not their first tournament, but, the first time they’ve ended in the big money. The first place team received a cheque for $10,000.
The tournament is run by the Port Colborne and District Conservation Club.
“We had an amazing weekend,” club president Kathy McQuire said. “We had 98 boats. The weather held, it was great and anglers were catching some amazing fish.”
