LAKEPORT, N.Y. — William McCracken didn’t catch the biggest fish in the 41st annual Oneida Lake Walleye Derby, but he will go home with the biggest cash prize.
The fish, one of three specially tagged walleye by the state Department of Environmental staff, were released into the lake last month at undisclosed locations. It was an extra attraction in the two-day derby hosted by the Chittenango Lions Club. The contest this year attracted around 1,500 anglers to the lake on the opening weekend of the walleye fishing season.
