The top Upstate NY fishing contests for the average angler

Upstate New York is offering a wide variety of fishing tournaments and derbies for the average angler this summer, with chances to win cash and prizes..

Here’s a sampling of the top ones:

May 25-27: The 55th annual National Lake Trout Derby on Seneca Lake. With the help of several sponsors, the derby is offering a grand prize of $10,000 for the largest lake trout caught during the event. Overall cash prizes will total $28,725. May 25: The Annual Spring Fishing Derby in Cape Vincent on the St. Lawrence River. More than $5,000 in cash prizes for first, second and third largest walley and northern pike. Plus, a raffle for a “Welcome to Cape Vincent” prize that includes Welcome to Cape Vincent prize. This prize is for 4 people and consists of 2 nights and dinner at The Roxy-Hotel, Restaurant and Bar, a full day guided fishing trip and more. For more, see the Cape Vincent Chamber website.
