“It’s been incredible,” said Joel Anderson, owner of Anderson’s Pro Bait in Port Huron. “A lot of small fish, though.
"Guys are catching 20 or even 30 walleyes to get their limit because of all the undersized fish. The thing I can’t stress enough is they have to check the size of their fish. The DNR is around, as they should be.”
Bill Barrons, of Angler’s Outfitters in St. Clair, said one of the indicators of walleye abundance is he’s catching limits.
“When me and my friend are fishing, we’ve caught 18 to 20 fish to keep our 12,” he said. “A lot of small fish this year as a group.
"Most of my fishing, I’ve been doing right in front of the store,” he said. “I’ve been very successful drifting – better this year than I’ve been in the past two or three years.
"I think I’ve limited out more this year than the last two or three years combined,” he said.
