Deer rifle season opens this weekend! The official season for Lake of the Woods County runs Saturday November 8- Sunday November 23rd. Hundreds of acres of public hunting land is available for hunters looking to set up camp or stay at one of our many resorts and hotels and then hit the trails. A number of our resorts offer guided hunting packages for those not familiar with the area. For lodging info check out www.LakeoftheWoodsMN/lodging
There are two zones to hunt when staying at LOW. 105 and 111, separated by State Hwy 11. 105 is made up of a lot of farm land with some public forest, be sure to ask permission to use farm land; and 111 is almost all public forested land. Scott Laudenslager, the LOW Wildlife Manager talked about the great opportunity to tag a deer when visiting Lake of the Woods County. He said despite lower numbers this year due to harsh winters and struggling crops, we also have a lower number of visitors coming north to hunt; so those who come have a great chance of tagging a deer due to low competition.
Scott mentioned having an antler-less lottery season instead of bucks only encourages more visitors as well because, along with the chance to draw a normal lottery antler-less tag, youth hunters, dissabled hunters, and tree bow hunters now have the opportunity to hunt their seasons using an antler-less tag.
